Like most design professors, my Professor always said to sketch before you design, and like most college students I ignored him. I thought what’s the point if I’m just going to transfer them into my design software anyway.

I rebelled against the idea for a whole semester. After a few long design filled nights in front of my computer screen, I realized that maybe there was something to this whole sketching thing.I found that by not sketching my ideas out and rushing to the computer, I was missing out on fully developing my designs.
Why Sketch?
5. The first concept is rarely the best
When you start a new design in illustrator, a lot of time you feel a bit of pressure to press on with that one design until its completed. By doing this you miss out on ideas you never got to explore. Just sketch it out, It’s quick, put your first idea on paper. This will allow you more time, and it will stop you from going forward with underdeveloped concepts.
4. Sketching isn’t about perfection
Get rough and dirty. Sketching is about quickly getting all the ideas out of your head, and putting them all on paper. It’s very freeing, and you will be surprised where your imagination will take you.
3. The concept is more important
At Clikzy we have found that when presenting the first concept, it’s easy for the client to focus on the smaller details like, color and font rather than the concept as a whole. By presenting wife-frames of our first concepts, we save time by not having to make dramatic changes later on in the design process.
2. Everyone can sketch
Many people can get intimidated when asked to sketch, but hey it’s just sketching it’s supposed to be rough and dirty remember? We all know how to draw simple shapes like; squares, rectangles, and circles. Those are enough to get out the simple concept on paper.

Eliminating the pressures of staring at a blank computer screen, frees your mind up to fully develop and explore your ideas.
