Everyone who has a website should have a blog. Here are 7 steps to help get you started!
1. Choose the most appropriate blogging platform. WordPress is the most used option with WordPress blogs consisting of about 9% of all internet sites. A custom solution is the most flexible, and will give you the best option of being different.
2. Put your blog on your domain. If you have a website and do not host your blog on your domain, then writing articles will not help grow your site. WordPress is another good option. The setup is a bit tricky, but its worth the time and effort. You can do this solution yourself if you are tech savy, but it may be worth having a web design company do the work for you. Plus, they can help customize your solution.
3. Add in keywords, but do not over add keywords. Your article flow should sounds natural, and flow easy. To many people just try to add in a lot of keywords without taking in mind that their content may sound forced. This usually results in a very high bounce rate as readers get easily bored, and annoyed.
4. Turn the comments off (At first at least). A blog with no comments is very sad, and lonely. You should shut off comments until you get a following. Once you have a RSS feed, and followers, then open up your post for comments!
5. Dont sell out too soon. Everyone wants to make money from their blog (if that is their goal). Then again most people sell out too soon, for very little money. This is normally a bad idea. Just keep writing about your passion.
6. Use a human voice. Your content and site should have a voice, and a personality. Not everything needs to be technical, you can add in some emotion and feelings. Have a solid point of view.
7. Write, Write, Write. At first, dont worry about trying to have the best content. Just write its ok for the content to be mediocre while you are learning. Its just important that that content is original, and that you unique. If you follow these simple rules, you will be on your way to creating a great blog!
